The green woodpecker is the largest of the three woodpeckers that breed in Britain. They breed in holes they have pecked in dead wood but spend most of their time looking for a tasty ant snack on the ground.
This charming woodpecker with its chick has been skilfully hand-carved from Indonesian albizia, known locally as 'silk tree', and then hand-painted with fantastic colourful detail.
