Description

Hand carved and sculpted by artists in Indonesia from teak tree roots, this Forest Horse is a striking, natural sculpture that stands approximately 180 cm tall. It makes a bold statement in a garden or outdoor setting and each piece carries its own character and style because of the materials and handcrafting process.

Each horse is unique: some are supplied with traditional hand-carved heads, while others are hand-sculpted from driftwood pieces. The supplier cannot guarantee which head style you will receive, so please check stock before ordering if a specific aesthetic is important. Because every item is individually crafted from natural roots, appearances, sizes and weights are approximate.

Designed with outdoor display in mind, this sculpture suits gardens, patios and other open-air spaces where a large, rustic statement piece is wanted. The natural teak root finish brings organic texture and form to landscaping and exterior décor.

This is an artisan artwork rather than a mass-produced ornament. Each Forest Horse will develop its own weathering and patina outdoors, reinforcing its one-of-a-kind appeal and making it a focal point for lovers of sculptural garden features.

  • Hand-carved artistry: Each sculpture is individually made by skilled Indonesian carvers, ensuring no two pieces are identical and providing authentic craft character.
  • Impressive scale: At around 180 cm tall with a 210 cm width, this is a true statement piece that will define its outdoor space and draw the eye.
  • Natural material: Crafted from teak tree roots, the piece offers natural grain, texture and hues that enhance rustic and contemporary garden settings alike.
  • Versatile display: Designed for garden and outdoor display, it works equally well as a focal point in a landscaped bed, on a lawn or beside a pathway.
  • Unique head styles: Delivered with either hand-carved heads or driftwood-sculpted heads, giving each item an individual personality and unexpected detail.
  • Artisan provenance: Hand made in Indonesia, reflecting traditional wood-sculpting techniques and a strong handmade aesthetic.

FAQs

How should I clean a teak root outdoor sculpture?

For routine cleaning, remove surface dust and debris with a soft brush or dry cloth. If needed, wipe gently with a damp cloth and allow the sculpture to dry thoroughly in open air. Avoid strong chemical cleaners or pressure washing, as these can remove natural oils and damage the wood’s surface over time.

What steps help protect the teak sculpture when left outdoors?

Teak is a durable natural hardwood, but prolonged exposure to moisture and direct ground contact can accelerate weathering. Place the sculpture on a level, well-drained surface and, if you prefer to slow colour change and checking, consider periodic application of an appropriate timber oil or preservative made for outdoor hardwoods. Regular inspections and prompt attention to any deep cracks will help prolong the piece’s life.

Will cracks, splits or patina affect the appearance and can they be treated?

Small checks and surface cracks are a natural part of solid-root and reclaimed wood sculptures and contribute to their character. These can be stabilised by keeping the piece dry between wet periods, and by reapplying a suitable outdoor wood oil or preservative if desired. For larger splits, consult a professional conservator or furniture restorer experienced with outdoor teak artworks.
